Semtech RX55 Industrial IoT Router

The AirLink RX55 is a compact, ultra-low power LTE-A router purpose-built for industrial IoT, SCADA, and remote monitoring. Supporting CBRS Band 48 and dual serial ports, it’s ideal for deployment in solar-powered or battery-constrained environments where space and reliability are critical.

Designed to operate in harsh outdoor and mobile environments, the RX55 provides secure cellular connectivity for sensors, remote assets, fleet telemetry, and smart infrastructure. It’s commonly used in sectors like utilities, oil & gas, agriculture, and public safety. The router includes a hardened aluminum enclosure (IP54 rated), MIL-STD-810G certification, and ultra-efficient power management features including low-voltage disconnect, ignition sensing, and sub-1W idle draw.

The RX55 includes a Cat 7 LTE-A modem with global band support, dual SIM slots, 1x Gigabit Ethernet port, serial and USB interfaces, and optional Wi-Fi 5. The “Wi-Fi Plus” model also supports Docker-based container applications and has expanded onboard storage. All models are managed via AirLink OS and ALMS and include a 1-year subscription to AirLink Complete.

This variant supports CBRS Band 48 and is compatible with a wide range of LTE bands across North America, EMEA, and APAC. It delivers peak downlink speeds up to 300 Mbps and uplink speeds up to 150 Mbps.

Key Features

Connectivity & Network Support

  • Supports LTE Cat 7 with 2x2 MIMO for up to 300 Mbps download and 150 Mbps upload. Dual SIM slots (Mini-2FF) support failover between private CBRS networks and public carriers including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Bell. CBRS Band 48 and public safety Band 14 are supported on U.S. variants.
  • Optional Wi-Fi 5 offers basic dual-band connectivity for up to 10 clients. Configurable in AP or client mode, it supports WPA2 Enterprise security, single SSIDs per radio, and peak throughput up to 433 Mbps.

Rugged, Low-Power Design

  • Built for extreme field conditions, the RX55 is IP54-rated, MIL-STD-810G tested, and certified for Class 1 Div 2 hazardous locations, as well as railway (EN50155/EN45545) and vehicle electrical standards (E-Mark, ISO7637-2). The unit measures just 4.69 x 3.35 x 1.34 inches and weighs 0.7 lbs.
  • Power draw is exceptionally low — idle draw is under 1W — and the unit supports input voltages from 7 to 36 VDC, with built-in protection against voltage transients, 5V engine cranking, and 200V load dumps.

Networking, VPN & Edge Compute

  • Includes advanced routing features such as policy-based routing, static routes, NAT, LAN segmentation, QoS, and IP passthrough. VPN support includes FIPS 140-2 compliant IPsec with support for up to 10 concurrent tunnels, MOBIKE, and full/split tunneling.
  • The RX55 Wi-Fi Plus model supports edge computing with Docker containers, and includes 200 MB of RAM for containerized apps and 2.8 GB of flash storage. A dual-core ARMv7 processor runs AirLink OS for consistent, reliable performance in the field.

Management & Configuration

  • The RX55 includes a 1-year subscription to AirLink Complete for secure remote management, ALMS provisioning, firmware updates, and support. Optional upgrade to AirLink Premium enables fleet-wide reporting and same-day hardware replacement.
  • REST API access is included (beta) for integration with custom platforms, and configuration can also be managed via a local web UI.

Connectivity Requirements

To operate the AirLink RX55 on CBRS or cellular networks, you’ll need:

SIM Card:
Two Mini-2FF SIMs provisioned on a CBRS or public carrier network such as Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile. CBRS Band 48 is supported on all North American models.

License or Subscription:
Includes a 1-year subscription to AirLink Complete for management, firmware, and warranty support. Continued access requires an active subscription. AirLink Premium is available for organizations that need Advanced Mobility Reporting and next-business-day replacement.

Deployment Support:
Deploying low-power CBRS-capable routers in the field often involves SIM provisioning, power planning, antenna selection, serial integration, and remote setup. Whether you're managing a single telemetry site or hundreds of smart grid nodes, our team can help streamline and scale your deployment. Reach out here to get started.
