Semtech RV50X Rugged Low-Power LTE Router
The AirLink RV50X is a compact, ultra-low-power LTE-Advanced Cat-6 router for industrial infrastructure, remote telemetry, and SCADA. With extremely low idle draw and standby modes, it’s ideal for solar- or battery-powered sites in harsh environments where wired connectivity isn’t feasible.
Built for critical field deployments, the RV50X supports 4G LTE broadband with secure Ethernet and serial connectivity for fixed assets in utilities, oil & gas, environmental monitoring, and public safety. The router’s efficient power profile — including sub-1W idle draw and standby mode — makes it suitable for battery-based systems, while its rugged design and industrial certifications ensure long-term reliability in remote or extreme locations.
This variant includes a Cat 6 LTE-Advanced modem with support for a wide range of LTE bands, delivering up to 300 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink performance. Wi-Fi is not available on this model.
Key Features
Connectivity & Network Support
- The RV50X supports LTE Cat 6 with up to 300 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink, covering LTE Bands 1–41 depending on region. It includes dual SIM slots for network failover across private or public networks.
- The unit includes a 1x Gigabit Ethernet port, RS-232 serial port (DB9), and USB 2.0 Micro-B interface, supporting both high-bandwidth IP applications and legacy serial-based protocols such as Modbus and DNP3.
Rugged, Low-Power Design
- With an IP54-rated aluminum enclosure and MIL-STD-810G certification, the RV50X is designed for shock, vibration, and wide temperature swings. It supports -40°F to +158°F operating conditions and Class 1 Div 2 hazardous locations. It is certified for rail and vehicle use under EN50155 and ISO7637-2 standards.
- The router runs on 7–36 VDC input, with configurable power modes, ignition sensing, and robust protections including 5V engine cranking and 200V load dump resistance. Standby mode draws just 53 mW, and LTE idle power is under 1W.
Networking & VPN
- The RV50X supports IPv4/IPv6 routing, NAT, policy-based routing, dynamic DNS, VRRP, and multiple subnets. VPN options include IPsec, GRE, and OpenVPN with up to 5 concurrent tunnels and FIPS 140-2 compliance. Host port routing and advanced event-triggered behavior are available via ALEOS Application Framework (AAF).
- Serial and Ethernet I/O can be monitored and used to trigger alerting and logging actions based on voltage, timers, data usage, or temperature.
Management & Configuration
- Managed through AirLink Management Service (ALMS), the RV50X includes a 1-year AirLink Complete subscription for firmware updates, cloud management, and technical support. Configuration options include local web UI, SMS commands, CLI (via SSH, serial, or Telnet), and SNMP. Optional AirLink Premium enables advanced analytics and same-day hardware replacement.
Connectivity Requirements
To operate the AirLink RV50X on cellular networks, you’ll need:
SIM Card:
Two Mini-2FF SIMs provisioned for a supported public carrier (e.g. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Southern Linc, Rogers, or Bell).
License or Subscription:
Includes a 1-year AirLink Complete subscription. Continued access to ALMS, firmware updates, and support requires an active subscription. Optional upgrade to AirLink Premium adds fleet reporting and same-day RMA.
Deployment Support:
Deploying the RV50X in remote industrial settings may require antenna selection, power planning, serial integration, and VPN setup. Whether you're deploying a few off-grid sensors or a utility-wide telemetry network, our team can help ensure a successful rollout. Reach out here to get started.
