CSS VZ2 PTP Network Time Server

The VZ2 PTP Network Time Server is designed specifically for environments deploying the Verizon Network Extender 3 or 5G Verizon Network Extender 4 for Enterprise where accurate, consistent time synchronization is critical.

In VNE installations, precise time alignment ensures proper event logging, coordinated operation across devices, and faster troubleshooting when issues arise. The VZ2 provides a reliable local time source so Verizon Network Extenders can maintain accurate timing even when individual units cannot obtain a direct GPS signal, and reduces dependency on individual GPS antenna placement.

Unlike internet-based time sources, which can introduce latency or variability, the VZ2 delivers LAN-based, GPS-referenced time that remains stable regardless of external network conditions.

How It Works

The VZ2 acts as a centralized time reference for Verizon Network Extenders using Precision Time Protocol (PTP).

  • It connects to GPS satellites via an included active GPS antenna, synchronizing time directly with the U.S. GPS network.
  • An internal OCXO reference clock maintains accurate time if GPS reception is temporarily interrupted.
  • Verizon Network Extenders on the local network use the VZ2 as their time and location source instead of relying on individual GPS antennas.

Each VZ2 can provide time and location services to up to five Verizon Network Extenders (eFemtocells) simultaneously, making it well suited for multi-unit deployments where consistent timing is required across the site.
